I have to agree with Mr. Goodhue. Go look at TABB.org and you will see the difference. I am a proud union contractor, SMACNA member and TABB certified contractor. 6000 hours ? this is nowhere close to what the requirement is. As a TABB certified Technican you need to prove 8000 hours, Pass a written exam that is 5 hours long ( the test is tough enough that most mechanical engineers cannot pass it) and perform 8 hours on hands on testing ( and yes I do judge the hands on test) with a proctor and 2 judges looking over your shoulder. The judges are at a minimum of a certified technician but most are certified supervisors and most are certified in numerous areas of TAB. I myself are certified as a technician in Air & Hydronic Balancing,Supervisor Air and & Hydronic Balancing, Supervisor in Sound & Vibration Analysis and a Certified Commissioning Supervisor. We provide the best trained Technicans to the industry peroid.

Just read your article on the so called new TAB program. Testing Adjusting and Balancing has been part of the Sheet Metal Training Apprentiship program for about 10 years. If you would like to see what a real training program looks like I would suggest you contact Dennis Boyd, the director for the HVAC Metals Institute, which is the Local 16 Sheet Metal Apprentiship Training program. His number is (503) 257-1022. You will be impressed by the very high standards of this program which is the benchmark for TAB.
