The most common land use action at this time is the extension of approved development applications. This week I drove around the area and saw close to 100 residential lots ready for building but not *one* new house starting. While there are houses being sold, the demand for additional homes to be built does not seem to be manifesting yet.

On a related note, we have spent the last 50 years building houses for families: 2 story, multi-bedroom and fairly expensive houses targetted at the post-WWII generation. This generation now is aging and their housing needs are very different from the housing inventory that exists. Perhaps this is the key time to re-evaluate the kinds of homes being built, the types of communities created in the process and how to improve the overall security of the population.
