The idea of taking rail directly to the airport sounded elegant and hassle-free. But at a cost of nearly half a billion dollars, it simply makes no reasonable sense.

The current system of AirBart transports about 600 people a day at a cost of $3 and gets one to the airport in about 15 minutes. The new system promises no improvement in time and will cost more per ride. At this rate it would take 121 years for the new system to pay the initial investment off.

The BART administration involved with this decision needs to recalled and replaced. This type of math is elementary. It does not matter where the money comes from to pay for this; it’s sloppy.
