I’m in favor of anything that might make Beaverton more livable. I do live here and find it to be a rather soulless wasteland. I’d personally like to see them start concentrating on the Round area. Move the car dealers up to the Northern end of Canyon, there’s plenty of empty car lots there, and re-develop a real downtown in Beaverton. Center everything around the Round and build/redevelop out from there. I’d still like to see a ballpark there that could be used for concerts and community events. Have the Max line run right through it. Beaverton needs something like this to start anew.

Interesting! I live and bike that area. I welcome more parks and paths in that area always, but really I’d like to see more space for parking cars for Tri-Met users at Beaverton Transit Center. it’s amazing how many of us park illegally in retail parking spots – I counted 12 people getting off the Max headed for the closest parking lot.

There already is a bike-pedestrian path on the north side of #26 almost between Slyvan (easy to get to zoo and downtown from there) and the old Cedar Hills Shopping Center (near #26 and #217). Ask Beaverton’s Bike Gallery for directions.

Wow Ken, that sounds fantastic. By fantastic, I mean a fantastic waste of money. A bike lane paralleling highway 26 would be a disaster. You must have forgotten the huge hill up to Sylvan which would deter your average cyclist from taking that route. Your average citizen would instead put their bike on the max and take it to the the zoo or Beaverton. You seem like the type type who jumps onboard with anything “green” or “bike friendly” without actually taking a few minutes to think about it. The sad part is, there is a growing number of you morons invading Portland and the surrounding area.

and bike lanes. connected to downtown via a master bike lane adjacent to hiway 26. connect beaverton to the zoo, washington park and downtown. it really isn’t far by bike, if a deadicated route in in place.

This sounds like a fantastic idea. Re-imagine and rebuild Beaverton. There’s so much potential to transform a vapid wasteland (with hidden treasures) to something that could serve as a new model for a vibrant suburban community. Ideally, without large scale corporate development.

It will take a visionary to see this through.

Bring on the streetcar too. Less cars.
