Either I’m missing something, the article has got the plan for the lights wrong, or that’s a pretty lame idea.

You are correct. I just spoke with Paul Corah with the Portland Fire Department and he said preservationists met with him last month and both groups decided it would be in the best interest of the memorial to keep the furnishing there and make replicas for the new memorial. We have struck through the statement above to indicate it is not factual.

I will have more information on preservation efforts surrounding Portland Firefighters Park in a story that will be online later this afternoon.

Please tell me this is NOT still the plan. I thought it was decided over a month ago not to strip mine the old memorial.
