What do we care about the future anyway? Is this really our responsibility? So what thousands of Clackamas people go across there, too bad! (yeah – they actually counted license plates folks!) So maybe we should use the topic as another reason to demonstrate our politicians are out of control. Yeah, or hey, I got one – use the topic as a platform to get elected – sounds good. I’ve been hearing this for years. Nobody ever want so pay for roads or bridges – so just let the thing fall down and people can swim across. It’s good exercise. 🙂

Dear Ms. Elissa Gertler,

I expect if you ask political cronies you will find “The feedback so far has been more positive than we expected”, but you certainly haven’t asked the Molalla City Council! Oh yes, the Molalla City Council already introduced a resolution opposing this proposal two months ago but Commission Chair, Lynn Peterson, made a special trip to the Molalla City Council meeting to appeal for us to defer action until the Commission could begin hearings – after the Primary Election.

The Sellwood Bridge is not even in Clackamas County. And this is my problem why? I can’t wait to pass that referral around. I’ve crossed that bridge maybe twice in my life.

Voters should be able to decide whether any of this makes sense (new taxes/fees for bridges while hundreds of millions are diverted to new light rail projects). Please, sign the initiative petition to require a public vote on new vehicle registration fees and gas taxes. You can print a petition, sign it and mail it back (like vote by mail)! www.AskOregonFirst.com

Wait a minute, didn’t we have money for that project? Or was that the money that was diverted to the bike paths in Multnomah County? We all know how important bicycle safety is…much more important than a pesky ole’ bridge.

This is further evidence that the Clackamas County Commission is out of control and out of touch with its constituents. If any proposal to burden Clackamas County residents with additional taxes is not referred to the ballot by the County Commission, it will be referred by local activists.

Make it a toll bridge thereby assurring the users pay for it and not those who never do. Not fair to make people pay for something they never use.
