We would have plenty of money for roads if is was not diverted to Tri Met, bike, sidewalks and beautification project.

Most trips are done by autos because that is how Portlandaders vote.

By choosing their cars.

It is time for transit and bike supporters, to pay their fair share!

The CRC is a giant waste of money and does nothing to solve congestion. It will merely move it to a different part of the system- namely, the Rose Quarter. So, for $3.5 billion (or whatever ridiculous number it is now) we have virtually no travel time savings for auto drivers. The best manage to manage traffic is with tolls.

I’m so sick of morons who think autos are financially sustainable. They come nowhere close. Gas taxes can’t even cover basic maintenance of the existing roads (which are not deteriorating because of bicyclists – hell, weather causes more damage to the roadway than bicycles.. The majority of the road system- the local streets, are improved and maintained with property taxes, which we all pay, regardless of whether or not we drive. Then there’s the vast wasted land devoted to parking cars, where they sit over 90% of the time. Portland traffic is the result of people who live too far from jobs and needless driving when most trips are less than 3 miles and could be easily done by walking and bicycling, which can be accommodated without widening the streets, which originally were set aside for public use (before autos existed I might add.

But no instead we’ve got to continue studying this project which if ever actually built large would help grow the economy significantly by relieving heavy freight congestion. This project should be between federal and western state governments, leaving out the luddite fringe of Portland city proper. Alternatively, a west side bypass of Portland, linking the Silicon Forest with Vancouver and parts north could also be a big boon.

It’s a 6 lane bridge being proposed just like we have today. The other 6 lanes are for light rail, bikes and pedestrians. What a waste of money! Bikes and pedestrians going across the Columbia river? How many per year? How many pedestrians and bikers will use the bridge from October to May? Maybe none because of the poor weather and high winds. This whole thing is a scam!

They have already proven that they do not care about the will of the people.

The longer we wait the higher the cost.

Have the feds condem the current bridge and the highway that extends on either side. After all it is an interstate highway right?

They should use the stimulus dollars that are beign wasted on statues and bunny parks to fund this federal project.

Lets us use the best road and bridge building experience the feds have and make something that the people need and want. Not the agenda, granola, bike trail, make us fell good crap that current leaders want.

This would be a economic tool that would actually work for the region.

A city this size should not be this bad. Killing the Mt hood freeway for light rail 30 years ago has proven an absolute failure. Yet the liberal, corrupt morons still want more light rail to Milwaukee!

90 percent of the metro population never even ride it!

If bike riders want special lanes they should start paying for them.

It is unsustainable to think auto and truck taxes and user fees can keep paying for all the unsustainable projects for transit and bikes.
