It should not be a surprise though that manufacturing is not Portland’s focus for economic growth. The city has turned its efforts to the “creative” industries for its economic future. This can be seen in the city’s economic development strategy plan at .

Portland should move mountains to bring in manufacturing jobs – if they are really good jobs and not just warehouse jobs – way stations for goods made overseas. Anything that creates added value and a true inflow of capital to our region is a plus – manufacturing does this. Casinos do not. (Jeff Cole aka PeasantPundit)
