A 2009 American Public Transportation Association report concluded that federally-funded transit projects produced a range of 24-41 jobs per million dollars and an average of 30 jobs per million dollars, twice as many jobs as road projects produce per dollar of spending. There are several reasons. Transit projects employ people to run buses and trains, require a workforce with more diverse skills than highway construction, and involve less land acquisition.
