I dont understand why so many people are needed to run the same program whether it be grant funded or not. Energy sustainability and energy efficiency is one in the same. When the community finds out that Vancouver doesn’t even have a sustainability coordinator due to layoffs, and there are multiple dept. (whether it be community services or community development) with the same similar title, it makes one ask, what are we missing here. I know that hands are bieng tied due to prevailing wage requirements and use of union personnel to perform the work, but I think is what is needed is more meaningful results and less paper being pushed across a growing number of desks.

Congrats to Clark County for starting to go beyond “green” to “sustainable”…

For the record Pete Capell is Public Works Director and Mike Selig is Project Coordinator for Energy Efficiency Services (a grant funded position).

I know of 3 people with the same title. Selig, Capelle, and someone else in community services. Maybe a good start would be getting rid of some of the coordinators who are bellied up to the perverbial gov. feeding trough…
