is bert talking about a grocery store with an intended market of just south waterfront residents where most shoppers come by foot, or a grocery store located in south waterfront that draws from residents further away but is still convenient for sowa residents? i would think ohsu employees would be a large part of the customers.

south of downtown has very few supermarkets, while downtown and northwest have many supermarkets and grocery stores.

I agree with schmootc. Zupan’s is the exact fit for this demographic: people who don’t mind that everything’s overpriced. And it’s right there. Or you can get on the streetcar, which goes straight to Safeway. What more do you want? A grocery skyscraper? Produce, floor 1. Meat, floor 2. Bakery, floor 3. Etc.
Come to think of it, that sounds pretty cool! Grocery skyscraper! Grocery skyscraper!

It is a good article. First time I have seen anyone print the numbers for grocery store location. Typically, other journalist would have bothered to research that information. It is sort of interesting that some of the residents equate their need for a grocery store with one being constructed.
