NativePDX, you are making two of the most ridiculous arguments I’ve ever heard… (But seeing your other posts, I’m not surprised..) These bike counts are conducting annually and as someone who keeps pretty tuned in to the bike community, including email lists and blogs, I’ve never seen the dates of bike counts actually posted. Your second argument that suggests that biking for exercise isn’t as important or worth counting is just as senile. How do you know when someone is driving around for the hell of it? Has anyone ever bothered to count those? I’ve driven around with no purpose before and know plenty of “car lovers” that actually enjoy driving around – yet no one ever questions that. Your anti-bike bias is so obvious in these comments that it’s a joke if you are even remotely serious…

One of the problems with bike counts is, we have no Idea who is riding for exercise and who is commuting. I ride for exercise and my trips are not meant to replace my auto trips, because they leave my home and go in a big circle until I get back home.

We don’t know if a counter is driven over several times, just to increase the number of trips. We do have a very radical bike community now, that may be manipulating the numbers to prop up their arguments . There is a group out there that want us to believe that bike trips reduce congestion despite the fact that most bike trips are around a mile or two long and short and seasonal.
