What matters is that the court gave Miki Barnes standing to appeal the zoning change. If others negatively affected didn’t bother to join the appeal, then they are lucky Barnes cared enough to do all that hard work on their behalf.

Personally I cannot understand how some negatively affected residents won’t stand up to voice a legitimate grievance and then seek to complain about those who do. It’s always ‘none of your business’ or ‘not in my backyard’.

Government encroachment. “Under the zoning, the Port of Portland would have been allowed to enter the property and cut down trees or make other changes to prevent obstacles for aircraft.”

“While the zoning efforts have been tossed out, the ruling states the city can still re-zone the property in a constitutional manner.” Maybe that should have been the first approach.

Miki Barnes. It would seem that to be a participant in the legal action – some connection to the property within the affected zone had to exist. But whatever the connection it appears the appeal benefited all within the zone.

While the city of Hillsboro and the Port were probably playing a bit of strong arm tactic, on the other hand I have a concern when Miki Barnes keeps being referred to as a nearby resident. My understanding she lives clear out in Banks and I just do not think non residents should be a part of the process.
