Dear Mr. Belluschi, I too watched that show they mentioned. For a long while, I had a dream to live in a home I put my two cents into it. I have a piece of land here in the San Bernardino Mountains in California. Is a beautiful properly but I WOULD LOVE to know what you think about building on a hillside. I must disclose, i have save some money for this purpose but I know building from scratch is costly. I’m looking to build something nice and small but comfortable for my third stage of my life. Again, I dont have a lot of money and would hate to get ripped off while seeking to fulfill my dream. One more thing, I dont have grandchildren yet and there is no near thought as my two sons are still college students, but one day, I wish to have grandchildren spend summers with me. can you lead me to the right direction for a good start?

Dear Mr. Belluschi, I watched and saved the “Strange Inheritance” show where they show cased you and your coming home to Portland. I am wondering if you would consider meeting with my son to talk with him about becoming an architect? He has been a contractor for the past ten years. He has built 5 new homes here in the area in the past 2.5 years. He has decided to leave the building trade and possibly attend Portland’s Architecture School. I know you are busy and may get many requests for your time but I am so hopeful that you might meet him and impart some of your wisdom. This is a big change for he and his wife and family and the decision to change directions is not taken lightly. Thank you so much for your consideration.

Tony, A friend contacted me the other day to say there was a piece on “Strange Inheritances” and it was on Pietro Belluschi. I watched it and decided I would try to make contact with you because when I was ten years old my mother gave me a book on your dad’s architecture. At that time (40’s) it illustrated his hillside homes and barn conversions which really caught my attention. At 21 my wife and I built our 1st house on a steep up hill lot in the Hollywood Hills, and from that point on I have continued to design and build on hillsides. Though I have been involved in every kind of architecture, hillside or historic restoration projects are my 1st love. I consulted with Charles Luckman in the late 60’s and one of the projects I put together for him is the bank tower (tallest bldg. in Portland) I think is owned by Wells Fargo now, but our client was the First Nat’l. Bank of Oregon. Next trip north I’d love to meet you.
