Talk about taxes.. what’s up with the 3% commission most realtors expect? That’s 6% right there, for a little bit of paper shoving, and going through the rolodex.. We could get a lot more out of a 1% tax than the 6% commissions.

The Oregon Association of Realtors has slapped a mandatory $75 annual assessment tax on members to pay for the leaderships grandiose scheme opposing a mythical real estate transfer tax that has no serious traction in the state Legislature. If rank and file Realtors are so enthused with this public relations campaign why not make the assessment optional and see how much support there really is for this public relations campaign among Realtor members.

Interesting comment about the Realtors Assoc. assessing a new tax – who is the bureaucracy here?
And what industry has in effect stolen billions of dollars from taxpayers and stockholders? You guessed it, real estate. We all are now paying for the bogus loans, the sham appraisals, the rampant speculation. Did the Realtors Association ever speak out against the dangers of these activities? No, they just raked in the commissions. And now bailouts and bankruptcies have stolen money from all of us.
I support a real estate transfer tax – especially if it can help avoid other kinds of tax increases. Let the real estate fat cats figure out how to cut their commissions and become a become a more cost efficient industry, and pass those savings onto consumers.

I have had it with property taxes. From now on I am voting NO on any increase in taxes, especially on property taxes. I am tapped out!

The Realtors Association is stealing money from their members under the bogus threat of this issue.

There has been no serious attempt to pass a real estate transfer tax from either Democratic or Republican legislators. None. There is not a single legislator pursuing this for the 2011 session. And yet, the Realtors Association is assessing a new tax on their members to fund opposition to this bogus fight. What a scam.

I wish some orgainization of weight would come out against the Portland Public School District’s proposed property tax spike (9 plus percent, next November if passed). The proposed use of the money seems too little for the dollars requested. Portland incomes aren’t going up any near this rate, move like less than 1% per year the past three years. Some homeowners may be pushed into foreclosure because of such increased costs. And this feared transfer tax would make borrowing that much more difficult for home buyers.

The problem is spending. The problem with the socialistic goals of the local, state and federal governments is eventually they run out of other people’s money.
