The project’s westside intersection with SW Macadam was scaled back because A) the original design tried to do everything for everyone, B) there isn’t enough money to do everything for everyone, and C) doing everything for everyone results in a whole of environmental, visual, and private property impacts. As much as Bob apparently dislikes paying for anything and blaming government for everything, the County has been very responsive to the public concerns and done well at balancing the multiple visions for this project. I suspect Bob’s vision for this project is supported by a small minority of the population, particularly those that actually are affected by the project.

These findings were already determined beforehand, regardless of further CH2M Hill study. The Adams / Cogen deal this past summer put the “fix in.” These aren’t savings. They are just scaling back the project so as to shift funds to the city of Portland, so it can transfer these Sellwood Bridge dollars to the Portland (milwuakee) light rail boondoggle. Why aren’t the real stakeholders of the Sellwood Bridge project, namely, Multnomah county car owners getting a break on their registration fees if there is such savings? Because its backroom politics to keep Portlanders, Multnomah citizens and Clackamas citizens in the dark.
