@del Monico, On Gruner's website it says its food is influenced by Germany, Austria, Hungary and Romania, so we're going to stick with Eastern Europe. http://www.grunerpdx.com/about.htm

Thanks for a correction, but Eastern European is also not correct. Review the Germanic menu on-line, and consider the German name, Gruner.

The restaurant at SW 12th and Alder, called Gruner, is definitely NOT Swedish. Owner-chef Chris Israel would call it perhaps German, but maybe more specifically Alpine…which is a long way from Scandanavia.

I wonder how Mr. Kovel came up with the name Blackbox for his revamped project. There is another, venerable building by that name: John Russell's 200 Market Street Building has gone by the nickname Black Box for decades.
