So where was everyone when the largest subsidized socialist project on earth was developed in the US highway system? We pour billions of public money into road and air infrastructure yet rail languishes on the hand me downs, if lucky. How could rail ever compete against such historic public subsidy. I see nothing wrong with leveling the playing field just a tiny bit to provide a little choice. The efficiencies of rail alone should qualify it as smart public investment ideally suited to the ever increasing density corridors within the US. It will also play a great roll in taking pressure off the already taxed air system.
