As an owner of a mid-century home and someone who possesses a proud understanding of the home’s heritage and value, I do not need a “preservation society” to tell me what I can or cannot do with my home.

If people are so concerned about what happens to these homes, then buy them, but I see it as a useless expense of taxpayer dollars to set up a guardianship for homes in an effort to tell the legal owner what they can and cannot do with their property.

Furthermore, it seems as though the women in the photo in front of MY house, being a real estate agent, has a motive to financially prosper from these classifications because she can know warrant charging more for a home of “significant architectural value”.

Frankly, our house sat vacant and for sale for over 220 day because the “cool folks” of Portland had no interest in living past the 205 loop.
Well, after a huge drop in price, we were able to afford our wonderful home and have done our best to make changes with the history of the home in mind.

We love and appreciate our home and hope that other owners of such rare gems do so as well but direct communication with them and a helpful attitude would go much further than continuing to spend yet more money to constrain people’s rights do do what they wish with their own home.
