Contrary to the deceivers this isn’t a dispute about whether or not to modernize or rejuvenate a city center.

It’s about the public deceit with Urban Renewal and Tax Increment Financing that knows no limits.

The blatant lies that usher these dishonest Urban Renewal schemes into implement ion are egregious offenses by public officials.

The claims of UR paying for itself, the omission of impacts to essential services, misrepresentation of past schemes, the failure of the always present “Transit Oriented Development” centerpieces and tax funded campaigns to dupe the public should be rejected by voters. Elected officials who are participating should be removed from office.

The last thing Beaverton should be doing is adopting Portland’s agenda and scandalous approach to everything.

Now if the City of Beaverton wants to propose to it’s voters and taxpayers a plan to to give the central city a makeover they should present their plan and ask for a new local option levy to pay for it.

If their plan cannot be advanced with the truth and the voters agreeing to pay for it then it should not be implemented.

The idea that the only way improve a city is with a lying and conniving UR scheme with high cost illegitimate elements is quite simply fabricated load of BS.

Had voters intervened earlier the entire tax money pit Beaverton Round would not have occurred. Now the perpetrators of that charade are wanting the public to trust them and let them divert essential services property taxes to more of the same.

OBVIOUSLY there are parts of the current plan that would be an improvement for Beaverton. Those elements are not justification for the greater scandal and misappropriation this scheme is.

Hye Craig: Guess you forgot this “great” project is right across the street from a strip club. I’m sure all sorts of people will be lining up in droves to move to such a “great” location. NOT!
Oh – and by the way – all those “ugly” businesses on Canyon Road are TAX PAYING BUSINESSES – not a public Ponzi Scheme so some schmuck developer can fill his pockets with tax dollars and leave a soviet style condo bunker that noone wants.
I guess you never heard of “The Round” in Beaverton did you? Or do you have a selective memory?

Great point, Howard. Downtown Beaverton is such a paradise now–who would ever make plans to change it? Planning is definitely the enemy–consider how attractive Canyon Road in Beaverton looks without planning of any kind. All we need is a few more strip joints and empty car dealership parking lots and it will be our Champs-Ellysees.

When the voters kill the Urban Renewal ponzie scheme in November the Don will have to move on as he did when he left Portland. They are the same people pushing all of the Portland/TriMet/Metro agenda on area communities. Their primary tool for doing so is public deceit. The invasion of this agenda into Lake Oswego, Clackamas County and Clark County is facing severe opposition. I hope Beaverton voters are not duped and do their part to help destroy this dishonest, goverment funded agenda.
