Thanks for this article. As Chair of the Advocacy & Alliances Committee for the Congress for the New Urbanism Cascadia Chapter, I couldn’t agree more with the importance for professionals to be involved in public policy matters. Even as a new chapter, CNU Cascadia has chosen to support an Advocacy Committee because we know how important it is to revise the kind of public policy that has promoted wasteful sprawl for so many years and create the kind of public policy that creates walkable neighborhoods where people can meet most of their daily needs on foot.

Now is the time for us to get involved in re-shaping the major Federal surface transportation act that is up for renewal at the end of the month. Please join CNUC in pushing for Oregon Senator Jeff Merkley’s Strategic Planning Act of 2011 to become part of the new legislation as it will promote the kind of scenario planning that Metro is now doing with local communities nationwide. Please join CNU in becoming part of Transportation for America, a nationwide coalition working for progressive transportation policy for the 21st Century.
