I recently saw this contruction on my drive in from Beaverton. I’m looking forward to the outcome. My daughter graduates high school in 2015, and so I’m looking to move downtown (sooner than later) to be closer to work and avoid having to drive.

I don’t mind the sidewalk-to-sidewalk design, it’s a narrow strip and they’re making good use of it. I like that they’re (apparently) saving that big tree and bit of grass. This is mostly a parking lot and it’s right on the MAX line, I think it fits and would be a huge improvement.

I’m alright with this so long as no historic homes are removed from the area. We have a lot of that sort of thing going on right now. Part of the charm of this neighborhood is that we have a lot of old homes. Here in lies the problem. I’m looking out my window, and I don’t see a single place where this could go without ruining part of our little burrow’s history. The very last thing we need is a repeat of the incident where MAC bought up an entire block and bulldozed all the old houses on it, only to be told they couldn’t make it into a parking lot. They made it a private park instead, and every time I walk through it, someone is getting high there.
So, what I’m saying is this. I live here. This is my neighborhood. This plan makes me uncomfortable.

Thank you Mr. Simantel. We will definitely keep our eyes on those issues as the project progresses through the design phase. To clarify your point about the number of floors in the building, Mike Corl of Vallaster & Corl Architects said that roughly six-and-a-half stories will be above grade, while the lower three levels will be basement parking below grade.

I finbd it interesting that Mr. Rodriguez reports that initial responses from the neighborhood have been positive. That is partially true, it is a great site and the neighborhood could use some more apartment and condo development. But the size of Mill Creek’s proposal is not acceptable as proposed, sidewalk to sidewalk and sidewalk to sidewalk and 140 units with limited parking and NINE stories, not six as your article indicates. Hopefully Mill Creek and the neighborhood can come together on a building more in line with the part of the neighborhood they are looking at.
