The people of Troutdale have been closely tied to the river for over 100 years. It is one of the 2 best rivers in the region for fishing and recreation. We love the river and want to protect it. What has been alarming is Metro’s reluctance to listen to the local citizens who live and breathe the natural environment we live in, and know it better than anyone else. Our community is filled with biologists and conservationists who are active in helping us protect the natural resources. The people of Troutdale love nature, but also have a belief in fair play. We have good suggestions for the protection of nature that Metro ignores, because it doesn’t fit into their model of centralized control. I was also alarmed when Metro refused to help our Elementary students with a recycling program at their school. If Metro wants a good reputation, it needs to listen, help, and do the right thing. The heavy handed approach is counterproductive, and doesn’t give the best result.
