However, it will take a substantial engineering feat to make the facility safe during an earthquake. First dibbies on a large upstairs/west facing unit with a beautiful view of downtown Portland! Let save this WAHi building. The good use is use auditorium for performing arts and concerts, Classrooms could be used as offices especially for non-profit organization like Sierra Club or Friends of Columbia Gorge, classrooms like computer class and art museum, How about Starbucks in one of those classroom? The original cafeteria on lower level could be restored for restaurant. The football fields should be made into park How about public swimming pool at the football field? Portion of this old football field would be good for unleashed dog park. This would be more sensible way to save WAHI

What a huge pile of brick it would be! It’s a wonderful location with a great view of downtown Portland and the West Hills but making sure the old brick building is safe in an earthquake of any size would almost require starting from scratch. It would be a fun place to live and work. It will be interesting to see what happens but I’m not in love with the building, at least not on the inside. Still, two million bucks for the property was a steal!!!

There are lots of city incentives and federal subsidies to assist you with making a portion of the units affordable.

It is a shame that if you want something affordable in Portland, you either have to move to the outlying areas of the city or you have to live in some crappy apartment building with no light, green space and character.

Great idea, but make it even better – make it affordable for all (not just the haves)!

This Bldg. needs to be a part of the Buckman Community.

Hey they demolised the Gym in that was built in 1961 and my question is why? WA-HI needs to be saved and used for a good reason and not be demolished.

So when you you dot the “I” and cross the “T” please let us know. Our High School means a lot to my fellow stdents who have attended over the decades.
and the public at large.

So what I am trying to say Lets Save WI -HI!

God bbless,

Doug Brown
WA-HI Class of 1962

This would be an amazing re-purposing of an historic building. Let’s get behind it with the same financial resources we found to turn our baseball stadium into a soccer venue!
