I agree with the work ethic part of this article. I have been a hard worker fir 16 yrs.i see men cime in talk on their phones hide in corners not ahiw up to work. Im 39 some of these guys are 50 yrs old.and i have a great work ethic. U have owners who dont know how to do the job just sale it. U have companies that dont pay a giid wage so they are forced to hire excons and under skilled employees. Comoanies have taken benefits away from employees no 401k and they still pay a low wage. I made 20 an hr my last job i am skilled in job shop surroundings so i can work from prints and without. I can engineer from an idea and build from that idea. I can weld circles around certified welders for i am not. So the problem is that i feel are an employer who cant do the job themselves shouldnt be involved in hiring. A man without a cert shouldnt be over looked.and for most companies need to recognize what they are paying for. U hire a 13 dollar hr guy he is going to lack skills and exoerience. Production jobs can pay up to 20 manufacture jobs pay up to 25 and job shops can pay uo ti 30 pending on the type of job shop. 20 yrs ago 13 dollars was an average wage.20 dollars in tidays world is an average which is still sad cause its not even 40k a yr. So they ask where are all these welders at. Well if u make it a shit job to have y would people doit. I can get a janitor job make around the same money with less stress. I can soend a couple yrs in school and make more money with less strain on the body and alot less hazards. So for someone to iffer 13 dollars an hr for who i am and what i can do is an insult. The prescreening from our employment department and recruitors is a joke. I can make more money to stay home and go on welfare. Something is wrong with the world. In the end i understand companies need to lower job costs to stay competitive but it comea to a point that bigger companies with lasers brakes and more people smaller companies cant compete so they pay little. Then complain about finding good help. They take benefits away ect. Bigger companies either pay lower wage with twice the amount of skill or the pay more with less employees. To them its about production. U get better work with skilled people. U just get work with less skilled. If all u need are welders then go hire a 13 dollar welder. Any monkey can just weld. If u need fitters u dont fo hire a welder pay them 13. Which is what alot of companies do now. A big part of the jib is to be able to probkem silve and u dont get that from school and working in a production shop. U get it with on the job experuence. Companies want experienced welders they need to look for job shop experience. Then u not only get ur welder but u have a guy who can work independently and u dont have ti worry bout him or her. But without benefits why even do the job. U want metal workers to come back make the job worth coming back

Yes, of course you can’t find workers with those skills for $13 an hour. Administrative Assistants whose primary job is to understand Microsoft Word and Outlook can make significantly more than $13 an hour. Looking on glassdoor.com, even baristas at Starbucks can make up to $14 an hour.

It’s little wonder then, that he can’t find good people. And McCallister is clueless enough to suggest “The job is more of a paycheck than a career it seems”? Who can base a career for the approximate salary of a barista at a coffee shop? Who on Earth can raise a family on 27K a year?

\effort needs to start with basic skills – like converting U.S. units of measurement into the metric system, which most people can’t do.\

If only someone would invent some type of computational, number crunching device that could do these thypes of dull algorithmic tasks automatically, all their problems would be solved.

The reason they can’t find skilled workers is because they’re only paying $13 an hour. Raise the pay, and you’ll find the workers.

What they’re really saying is “I can’t find qualified workers to work for such little pay.”
