I’m hoping the public comes to understand the benefits of deconstruction, and pushes for it to happen in virtually every case where a home or a building will be taken out.

This deconstruction project is obviously a wonderful learning opportunity for those interested in the Construction Industry. But there is also a “deconstruction industry” here in Portland that is environmentally irresponsible, resulting in dust clouds filled with asbestos and lead, which all of us are breathing. It tears down Portland’s history, without using the old growth timber for new projects. The true culprits are the public officials who don’t regulate, don’t prevent demolition, and who pave the way to contradict their own “Climate Plan,” which calls for the opposite of these practices.
