I think its also important to note the context differences in the rendering and the photograph.

The rendering is sunny and bright and the photo is overcast and dark. This is aside from the fact the rendering shows a completed project. The contextual differences play a huge role on how we analyze comparatively.

I am guessing the project will look fantastic when its completed and there is life inhabiting its spaces.

Usually when a project is close to completion there is always a bit of a shock on the part of the client or those with an untrained eye. They see building wrap, unfinished landscape, no paint etc and have a bit of a panic attack. I would definitely have a little more faith in the diligence of the design process.

You, sir or madam zip-uh-dee-doo-dah, are either 1) part of the design commission, or 2) have never gone through design commission. Your comment makes it appear you have a lot of skin in the game, so I’m guessing it’s the former. I know Kevin. He’s a good guy and a qualified architect. I think he worked for FFA for a while. Write him that comment directly and he’ll probably buy you a coffee (at the Zipper…) and ask you to let some more off your chest. Deep breath!

It should be noted that Cavenaugh is not a licensed architect, merely a developer with a college degree in architecture, and his designs show it. For him to criticize the idea of “other people designing my building for me” is quite naive, short-sighted, and arrogant considering he doesn’t even possess the minimum qualifications to be an architect. The legitimate architects who comprise the Design Commission actually possess the chops to design buildings, not just critique them.
