It has been many years since we have connected but I have very fond memories of you. The last news I remember from you was that Austin had a new baby sister named Ainsly who was adorable. I may be wrong but I think that was in 2004 or 5!!

As I remember you were in Real Estate in some form but I do not remember any details. My husband Bruce and I have been living in Mexico half the year for the past ten. We have been running incredible projects in very very poor barrios. It has been an amazing experience and we have passionately loved it. However, we finally listened to our many kids who live in Portland, that it was time to come home since we are turning 80 shortly!

So in July 2020 we rented our Portland home and moved into a retirement center called Terwilliger Plaza to see how it would feel being part of a community. Turns out we LOVE it. I am still practicing as a family coach. Because of COVID, it has all been on FaceTime or ZOOM, so no need for an office. I was use to doing Face Time with clients in Mexico for 6 months each year so it has not been a huge change.

Until this July we lived, when we were here in Portland in the summers and early fall, in an apt in our 1401 house which we converted into a one bedroom, bath and living room/ kitchenette. It is under the garage with a separate entrance on the stairs going down to the offices. Think we wanted to prepare for apt living!!! I used the offices and then we rented the rest of the house. It was kind of like co-housing/house sharing when we were there. Separate but together! And every renter we had was amazing and it worked extremely well, so it was almost a perfect situation.

Starting in Aug 2020 we rented the whole house to four individuals (fascinating and wonderful people) until Aug 2021. Our kids began to convince us that since we loved being here at TP, that we should consider selling the house. They would like us to begin the process in June. They looked up a number of people who might be able to help us brainstorm the how’s, what’s and best ideas of how to and your name, Dana, came up as one possible person who might be able to brainstorm with us.

The biggest issue is that we are not sure if it is a sensible idea to sell right now as we owe a very large sum on the house. We took out loans to help our many kids with college and grad schools and to help create our projects in Mexico. We are not sure that we could make enough on the house at this point to help us stay here at TP.

Unfortunately, we have spent our lives helping others and giving and giving, never thinking we might live to the ripe old age of 80+ and need to take care of ourselves!! So now we are looking for the most economical way to sell our 1401 SW Highland Rd home.

As you may remember it is a very funky, unstylish, old, lived in home with lots of possibilities and options in a nice location. We have lived there for 37 yrs and feel like that is a home that has this just weird positive energy that just kept on giving and giving!!

Much of the house was added on with projects of teens who were troubled (like the offices and deck) and other projects throughout the house, by less fortunate clients who could not pay but wanted to help us! We would like to sell it as is, as we just do not have the funds to improve it.

It has two bedrooms, two baths, living rooming/dining area and kitchen and laundry on the top floor next to the garage. The second floor has two more bedrooms, one bath and a large playroom/ living room area and then a door separating it from, a small apartment with one bed, bath and living/kitchenette with separate entrance. Ideal for a nanny or mother in law, etc. Then the three small offices on the bottom deck and the large one at the far end. No yard but close to the arbo, etc.

We have no idea of how to go about this. Had it on the market for one month a while ago but then decided we were not ready to sell. If this is something you would be willing to consult/brainstorm with us on, that would be fabulous but I certainly understand if you do not want to.

I would, at least, love to hear how you are doing and what you have been up to!
