A Gresham nonprofit is pushing ahead with plans to add a new two-story building on its property.

My Father’s House offers transitional housing to low-income families in a pair of Gresham multifamily buildings at 5003 Powell Blvd. The group’s latest proposal is for construction of a 17,375-square-foot structure that would hold space for job training and retail sales, as well as office space, a section for donation drop-offs and a small coffee kiosk. My Father’s House would run the facility and employ on-site residents. The Gresham Design Commission will consider the proposal during a design advice consultation on May 6.

The new building, according to documents submitted by AXIS Design Group, would be constructed on the nonprofit’s existing 2.74-acre parcel. An existing single-family residence at the property’s southern edge would be demolished in order to accommodate new construction.

The new development also would include landscaping, circulatory hardscape and a covered outdoor public plaza.

The building itself would feature pre-engineered metal framing with a finish-grade ribbed metal cladding system and single-slope standing seam roof. Clear, low-emissivity glazing would be used in an aluminum storefront system for energy efficiency, while a rooftop photovoltaic array would generate power. Stormwater would be treated and infiltrated on-site.

Construction manager/general contractor Perlo Construction is seeking metal and concrete subcontractors to work on the renovation of Barlow Hall at Clackamas Community College‘s main campus in Oregon City.

The building was constructed in 1969 and has long served as the home of the college’s automotive department. However, spaces in that building are “crowded, inefficient and outdated,” according to the college. Manufacturing programs moved into the new Industrial Technical Center, completed this past summer, to allow expansion and modernization of Barlow Hall and better serve the automotive department.

This year, the college plans to renovate the hall at a cost of roughly $3.5 million. The project is being paid for with money from a $90 million bond approved by voters in 2014.

Currently, Perlo Construction is seeking bids from firms to perform all concrete work as well as installation of metal doors and frames.

Axis Design Group is the architect for the project, VLMK Engineering + Design is the structural engineering firm and PAE Consulting Engineers is handling MEP work.
