Milwaukie City Hall is set to be transformed into a brewery, a restaurant, and a bakery. The city of Milwaukie has selected Henry Point Development to tackle the project.

In August 2019, the Milwaukie City Council authorized the purchase of a former Advantis Credit Union building at 10501 S.E. Main St. to become the next City Hall. The city outgrew its current building, at 10722 S.E. Main St., decades ago and has since purchased and built other facilities to accommodate staff and services.

Henry Point Development’s proposal focuses on the project’s five adopted community goals, including destination creation, historic preservation, use of minority-owned and woman-owned business enterprise contracting, sustainable building practices, and preservation of open space, according to the city.

Travis Henry, founder of Henry Point Development, stated in an email that business partner Owen Gabbert LLC will partner with Angie G LLC, a woman-owned contracting business, to conduct construction.

“Together with our talented design team, led by Brett Schulz and Kristen Barrow with Brett Schulz Architect, we feel that we have the right mix of talent, experience and vision to deliver a fantastic project both in terms of its quality and its contribution to the fast-changing neighborhood,” Henry stated.

Milwaukie City Hall was constructed between 1937 and 1938, according to the city’s website. Its façade will be preserved. The renovated interior will house several tenants. The project team has commitments from three popular food and beverage operators, including a brewery, a pizza shop and a coffee house/bakery, according to Henry. While not at liberty to divulge the names yet, he said the businesses have large followings.

The second floor will become office space, which Henry hopes will be occupied by a nonprofit arts organization that has expressed interest in a potential lease. The organization would curate artwork for display throughout the building and possibly use the parking lot, which Henry Point Development plans to lease from the city, on a quarterly basis for an art-focused, community marketplace.

The redevelopment project will begin in 2023, after city services relocate to 10501 S.E. Main St.
