A hotel has been proposed for a prominent downtown Portland property, across from the iconic Powell’s Books store.

The Portland Bureau of Development Services last week received from citizenM a with plans to build a 13-story, 264-room hotel on a The building would include 4,420 square feet of ground-floor retail space, with a hotel drop-off and valet zone as well as a loading dock on Southwest 10th Avenue.

The property currently holds an 86-year-old building occupied by a vitamin store and surface parking. The property’s owner is listed as the Tobias Investment Co. of Portland.

CitizenM is an international hotel chain based in New York City with locations in major cities in Asia, Europe and North America. The company opened its first hotel at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol 10 years ago and now has 30 on three continents. CitizenM develops its own projects and currently has nine other hotels in the works in the U.S., including the South Lake Union and Pioneer Square neighborhoods in Seattle. the one in South Lake Union; it’s to be the first fully modular hotel in North America.

CitizenM also states it is developing six projects in Europe and two in Asia.
