The quest for short-term lodging is taking the hospitality market in unlikely places – even floating atop the Columbia River.

The Portland Bureau of Development Services recently received an early assistance request for a project to convert a six-home residential floating moorage into a six-unit tiny house hotel.

The proposal for 301 N. Bridgeton Road was submitted Aug. 29. The address is along the river, between Portland International Airport and Portland International Raceway.

“They hope to essentially create some sort of small hotel business there,” said Phil Sydnor, principal of .

The firm performs a fair amount of houseboat work, Sydnor said.

The property owner is listed as Eric Meiier, with an address in Apache Junction, Arizona. Integrate’s Michelle Wood is identified as the applicant. The developer was not identified.

The developer intends to replace the existing six units with new ones, Sydnor said.

Portland has seen a proliferation of hotel projects recently. That’s been matched by eager property owners converting existing residences to short-term rentals or building accessory dwelling units.
