A seven-story mixed-use building proposed in the Overlook neighborhood will go before the for design advice later this month. ()

A proposal for a set to go before the Portland Design Commission Sept. 20 would bring 130 residential units and retail space to the Overlook neighborhood.

The applicant for the project is Works Progress Architecture, which envisions an 89,000-square-foot mixed-use building at the northeast corner of North Interstate Avenue and Church Street. It would include both retail space and residential amenity space on the ground floor, with 130 apartments on the six upper floors.

There would be room for 22 vehicle parking spaces at ground level. Also, modifications could be made for bike rack spacing and loading.

The property at 1431 N. Church St. lies within the city’s North Interstate Plan District. Zoning is RHd for high-density residential with design overlay.

Proposed building materials include metal panels and cementitious shingles.

This is a different design for the property, which calls for construction on two adjoining tax lots, than one submitted in February during a design advice hearing. That previous proposal envisioned two separate residential structures featuring just 19 units each.

The that it will soon meet with the project team to discuss its anticipated impact on the surrounding area.
