An upcoming project will expand the terminal building between concourses C and D at Portland International Airport. (Port of Portland)

and are working jointly to carry out the first phase of work in a $950 million effort to expand Portland International Airport‘s terminal core. Bids are now being sought from subcontractors interested in performing a wide variety of tasks.

has designed the expansion project. It includes construction of a multistory addition to the existing terminal building between concourses C and D. All below-grade utilities serving that building will be relocated.

The existing building’s roof and mezzanine will be removed, and then a new large-span roofing system will be installed over the entire terminal core complex.

New post-security concession nodes and a new pre-security concession hall will be built, as will new security checkpoints in the addition. Meanwhile, crews will relocate or build new passenger exits, a new ticket lobby and counters, baggage handling systems, new and upgraded restrooms and an upgraded baggage claim area.

Behind the scenes, there will be installation of new mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and information technology systems.

Also, 16 passenger-boarding bridges will be removed and new bridges installed, while an expansion of the crew security checkpoint will also be expanded and improved.

Finally, Concourse B will be extended and improved, and Concourse A will be demolished.
