Atlantic Aviation, a fixed-based operator catering to private business travelers, has opened at Portland International Airport. Centrex Construction, a Tigard-based contractor specializing in aviation work, wrapped work on the project in February after 11 months of construction. The firm served as the design-build contractor on the approximately $25 million project, working with the Portland office of California-based architects JRMA.

The project consists of two 30,000-square-foot hangars and a 12,000-square-foot terminal, as well as a fuel farm and a building to hold ground support equipment. The terminal features multiple office and conference rooms and amenity space for pilots, including a lounge and sleep rooms, with high-end finishes throughout.

Other work on the 12-acre site included rerouting a water main, construction of a parking lot, and landscaping. The project went from zero design definition to occupancy in 20 months, with crews sometimes working seven-day weeks to deliver the project on time. KPFF served as the civil engineers on the project, which also included Hughes Electrical Contractors, Western Plumbing, and Roth Heating & Cooling, which performed mechanical design/build work.

Centrex Construction is building a 72,000-square-foot facility at Portland International Airport for Atlantic Aviation, a fixed-base operator catering to high-end corporate flyers. The project will include a pair of 30,000-square-foot hangers built on either side of a 12,000-square foot terminal building, which will house amenities including lounge space, conference rooms, office space, pilot sleep rooms, and a car rental desk.

An official groundbreaking for the project was held in early March, after demolition of an existing cargo building had been completed and slab poured for the terminal building. Approximately 180 piles up to 115 feet in depth were driven over the course of two weeks to support the structures. Centrex is working as the design/build contractor alongside California-based design firm J.R. Miller & Associates. The terminal and one hangar are slated for completion at the end of this year, and the opening of the second hangar is to follow six weeks later.
