Work is nearly finished on a project in Northeast Portland to convert a former bakery into an America’s Mattress store. The 4,600-square-foot space at 935 N.E. Broadway has new carpet and paint as well as repaired drywall and a new ceiling grid. This renovation and work on another America’s Mattress store in Clackamas were performed by general contractor Brix Contracting and architect CIDA Inc.

Part of a former furniture store in downtown Lake Oswego has been renovated to become the new home of an interactive children’s center. The Play Boutique, at 464 First St., has 10,000 square feet of space for kids up to age 7. General contractor Brix Contracting LLC was in charge of the remodel, and received design help from GBD Architects.

The historic Chelsea Ballroom in Southeast Portland is getting an extensive renovation to become the home for the Philadelphia-based Helium Comedy Club. Top comedy acts will perform at the club at the corner of Southeast Hawthorne Boulevard and Ninth Avenue. When completed later this month, the space will have a 250-seat showroom, a lounge, a bar and a kitchen. Brix Contracting LLC is the general contractor and Myhre Group Architects is the designer of the remodel.

A former retail store in the heart of downtown Portland is now a frozen yogurt shop. The third location for Skinnidip is within a 355-square-foot storefront at 617 S.W. Morrison St. that holds the customer area, service counter, prep area and storeroom. Brix Contracting is the general contractor and CIDA Architects & Engineers is the designer of the project.

Carole Zoom, artist and community activist, has a new wheelchair-accessible dance space in Zoomtopia, an art and dance studio in Southeast Portland that will have a grand opening celebration Jan. 28. The 10,000-square-foot former home of an electronics business was renovated extensively. The building at 810 S.E. Belmont St. has been divided into several spaces to be own by arts oriented groups or businesses. Three of the spaces have already been leased in the building that is hoped to become a community for creative enterprises. General contractor Brix Contracting did the remodel from a design by Boora Architects.
