The Society for Marketing Professional Services’ Oregon chapter is bringing together business industry leaders to discuss expansions into uncharted territories.

The virtual event is scheduled for Dec. 8 from noon to 1:30 p.m. Architecture, engineering and construction industry professionals will inform attendees: how growth initiatives can be implemented, how certain frameworks were used by other firms and what potential challenges could be looming for expanding businesses.

Kathryn Ness, a GO Strategies LLC partner, will moderate the discussion featuring: Russell Kofford of TRD Enterprises, Gavin Oien of David Evans and Associates, Jeff Caldwell of Klosh Group and Kari Turner of PIVOT Architecture. They will provide insights into developing client relationships in new geographic areas, strategies for breaking into new markets and geographic regions, and lessons learned.

Following the panel discussion, attendees will be able to ask questions. Tickets cost $15 for SMPS Oregon members or $25 for nonmembers.

The Society for Marketing Professional Services’ Oregon chapter will hold its annual market mixer virtually on June 9 from noon to 1:30 p.m.

Architecture, engineering and construction professionals will be able to talk with potential clients and discuss market trends in an intimate setting.

Event attendees will participate in two different roundtable discussions in breakout rooms. Each room will be led by an owner, developer or potential client in key industry markets. They will represent transportation, industrial, health care, sustainability trends, market-rate housing, mixed-use development, affordable housing, K-12 education, higher education, office space, libraries, adaptive reuse, biotech, or senior living. Also, city representatives from Happy Valley, Sherwood and Vancouver, Washington, will lead rooms.

Moderators will lead business development-related discussions during which attendees will have opportunities to ask questions.

Tables are limited to 10 participants and are first come, first served. The event will not be recorded. Tickets are free for SMPS members or $25 for nonmembers. Learn more by visiting .

The Oregon chapter of the Society for Marketing Professional Services has named its board of directors for the upcoming fiscal year.

One of the group’s most important goals for 2020-21, it says, is for it to be engaged with community members. “This board,” according to a news release, “is committed to building a culture of transparency, proactive outreach, and a better understanding of how we can best serve our members and our community.”

The Society for Marketing Professional Services’ Oregon chapter recently announced its 2019 Marketing Excellence Award winners, including Emily Dechambeau of David Evans and Associates as Chapter Member of the Year.

Other Headliner Award winners were: Libby Corliss of GBD Architects, Marketer of the Year; Ben Bracelin of Deacon Construction, Business Developer of the Year; Allison Tivnon of ECONorthwest, Influential Leader of the Year; and Peter Meijer of Peter Meijer Architect, Marketing Advocate of the Year.

SMPS Oregon also handed out Communication Awards to: Lorentz Bruun Construction, winner of both the Project Pursuit Award and Digital Marketing Award; Bremik Construction, winner of the Internal Marketing Award; Pence Construction, winner of the Branding Award; and PAE Consulting Engineers, winner of both the Print Collateral Award and People’s Choice Award.

The awards ceremony is held annually to showcase marketing professionals’ best practices and educate the building industry about the critical role of marketing and business development.

This year’s judges were: Nick Bjork, publisher of the Daily Journal of Commerce; Alison Tierney, marketing director for Kittelson & Associates; and Matt Watson, founder and creative director of Watson Creative.

SMPS Oregon is seeking nominations for its 2019 Marketing Excellence Awards. The event is touted by the Society for Marketing Professional Services chapter as “an opportunity for professionals to showcase their best marketing practices and educate the industry about the critical role of marketing and business development in successful firms.”

SMPS members and nonmembers alike are invited to nominate an outstanding colleague or an exceptional piece of marketing. Awards will be handed out in five “headliner” categories and five marketing communications categories. In addition, event attendees will be able to vote for the People’s Choice Award.

All headliner award winners will receive a $500 credit to attend the 2019 SMPS Build Business Conference in Washington, D.C., or the 2020 SMPS Pacific Regional Conference in Las Vegas. A variety of prizes will be given to marketing communications award winners.

The awards banquet will take place from 4:30 to 7 p.m. on April 10, at the Exchange Ballroom, 123 N.E. Third Ave. in Portland. Tickets to the awards ceremony cost $55 each for members or $65 each for nonmembers.
