Tonie Esteban has devoted her career to improving public schools and, over the last two decades, she has worked on several different types of education projects.聽

鈥淚t feels good to know that my work will continue to support future generations, especially those who are leveraging their education to advance their opportunities.聽Every completed K-12 project is very fulfilling,鈥� she said.

Esteban鈥檚 work extends to university career fairs, portfolio reviews, job shadowing and career days at middle schools and high schools. She also leads BRIC鈥檚 Project Management Collaboration Forum, a mentorship space for project managers to meet, share insight into their projects, and receive advice and potential solutions from their peers.

鈥淚 learned very quickly that a complex project requires teamwork.聽You can鈥檛 do it all!聽I try to create a 鈥榯eam鈥� environment, with a good mix of working, planning, learning, laughter and support,鈥� she said.

Among other professional affiliations, Esteban is a board member of the Oregon Board of Architect Examiners and a National Council of Architectural Registration Boards volunteer and committee member.

Eugenia Fama-Higgins, senior associate at Scott Edwards Architecture, has spent 17 years advancing inclusive design practices in the Pacific Northwest. An immigrant architect who began her U.S. career in Portland in 2010, Fama-Higgins served as lead designer and project manager for the Nueva Esperanza affordable housing development, coordinating virtual client engagement and community focus groups during the pandemic. The project earned recognition as a 2025 91视频 Top Project and Housing Oregon Golden Hammer Award winner.

At Scott Edwards Architecture, Fama-Higgins leads the Multi-Family Think Tank, where she promotes innovation and best practices in residential design. She initiated the firm鈥檚 post-occupancy survey program and serves on the Justice Equity Diversity and Inclusion committee. She founded an internal Minority Architects affinity group supporting underrepresented staff members.

Fama-Higgins serves as board member of NOMA鈥檚 (National Organization of Minority Architects) Portland chapter and co-chairs its Education & Professional Development Committee. She volunteers with the Architecture Foundation of Oregon鈥檚 Architects in Schools program, bringing design education to elementary students.

Karl Gleason is an architect at Skylab Architecture with 12 years of industry experience. His career highlight includes designing the academic building for the Loyola Marymount University School of Film & Television. The project features a multistory, custom-pleated and perforated facade screen that responds to the building鈥檚 prominent location along the university鈥檚 central promenade. The screen both activates and highlights the building鈥檚 instructional and social uses.

Gleason worked closely with the School of Film & Television, university representatives, the general contractor, design partners and students throughout the project.

He explained that architects can and should demand more of themselves, their designs and their buildings. Gleason noted he is motivated by the belief that good design can be more than a reflection of culture and society. He said it challenges the status quo and requires research, rigor, risk-taking and hope.

Juliette Grummon-Beale serves as sustainability director at Scott Edwards Architecture, where she leads the firm鈥檚 sustainability program and project processes. With 18 years in the industry, Grummon-Beale has built a career centered on sustainable design leadership and advancing environmental practices in architecture.

She chairs the Technical Committee for the Zero Coalition and is a member of Sustainable Design Leaders. Grummon-Beale is active in the Carbon Leadership Forum鈥檚 Portland Hub and USGBC Oregon, contributing to regional sustainability initiatives. She serves as a mentor in NBI鈥檚 Next Gen Mentorship Program and supports emerging professionals through ETO鈥檚 Net Zero Emerging Leaders Internship Program.

Grummon-Beale explained that sustainability leadership requires holistic thinking, optimism, compassion and resilience. She noted that leaders must see the big picture and share compelling stories of hope to inspire change. Approaching sustainability as a design problem, rather than an insurmountable challenge, she said, allows creativity to arrive at solutions.

Katie D. Hall, an associate principal and architect at Hennebery Eddy Architects, has 25 years of experience transforming public buildings and transit facilities into community-focused assets. She specializes in people-centered design that prioritizes accessibility, sustainability, and community engagement.

Hall led the Campbell Community Center renovation in Eugene, creating a vibrant gathering space along the Willamette River that serves the community鈥檚 aging population through enhanced programming and landscape improvements. Her collaborative approach emphasizes listening to community voices and aligning design solutions with client needs.

Currently, Hall is focusing on the Redmond Terminal Expansion, continuing her work in transit-oriented design. She serves as a board member for Sexual Assault Support Services and holds memberships in the American Institute of Architects, where she previously served as chapter president, and Central Oregon Women in Construction. Hall is a WELL and LEED Accredited Professional, a graduate of Leadership Eugene-Springfield, and a current participant in Leadership Bend.

Alison Hoagland, architect and principal, has spent 20 years developing projects that drive economic growth and innovation across multiple states. She specializes in creating facilities that support emerging industries and manufacturing sectors.

Hoagland’s notable projects include Panasonic’s electric vehicle battery manufacturing facility in De Soto, Kansas 鈥� the largest economic development project in the state’s history. The facility represents her focus on combining large-scale industrial development with clean energy initiatives and high-wage job creation.

Her leadership approach centers on assembling specialized project teams and empowering individual contributors to apply their expertise throughout project delivery. She emphasizes building collaborative environments where team members can openly discuss both capabilities and challenges.

Hoagland currently serves as chair of the board of directors for the Green Building Initiative, applying her expertise in sustainable built environments. She volunteers with Architects in Schools, a program run by her firm, and maintains memberships in NAIOP and the American Institute of Architects.
