Eric Cress, principal at Urban Development + Partners, has spent 23 years reshaping Portland鈥檚 urban landscape after transitioning from microchip design to community development. His firm has transformed Portland neighborhoods including Southeast Division and the Central Eastside, while pioneering intentional community development through cohousing projects. Cress explained his career shift fulfilled a personal mission of increasing human connection through the built environment, allowing him to create positive impact in communities he values.

His leadership philosophy centers on development as entrepreneurship, requiring courage to articulate shared visions and navigate obstacles alongside strong teams. Cress noted the importance of working with people he cares about, emphasizing that collective commitment sustains projects through challenges.

He serves on the Central Eastside Industrial Council board and previously was its president. At the Urban Land Institute, Cress transitioned from chapter president to national product council member. He also contributes to the Advance Portland Advisory Committee.
