As Schnitzer Properties celebrates its 75th anniversary this year, Jordan Schnitzer recalls some sage advice he received from his parents.

鈥淚 watched my father when I was in grade school and we had hotels then. He would treat the maid with the same respect as the general manager, and the same with my mother,鈥� he said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 not how lucky you are that you get to work with me, but how lucky I am to get to work with you.鈥�

Schnitzer鈥檚 said his greatest career accomplishments involve focusing on smaller industrial properties, and fostering a company culture in which colleagues support each other and aren鈥檛 afraid to ask for help.

鈥淚nstead of hiring more people, we put smarter people in the regions where we were buying and developing property. People who knew the community better than people from outside who through they knew better what the community needed,鈥� he said.

Schnitzer鈥檚 robust roster of community support includes Bybee Lakes Hope Center and Helping Hands, which have helped 3,500 people overcome addiction and become productive citizens.

Jill Sherman leads Edlen & Co.鈥檚 public-private partnerships and build-to-suit projects for nonprofit and for-profit organizations. Her projects at Edlen & Co., and previously at Gerding Edlen Development, include affordable housing, community facilities, student housing, academic buildings and mixed-use retail. Her resume includes more than 15 LEED-rated projects, of which five are platinum.

Her expertise also includes integrating non-conventional sources of financing, including low-income housing tax credits, new market tax credits, historic tax credits, tax-exempt bonds and urban renewal funds.

Sherman holds a master鈥檚 in urban studies from Portland State University as well as bachelor鈥檚 degrees in psychology and economics from the University of Pennsylvania.

She served on Portland鈥檚 Planning and Sustainability Commission and as chair of ULI Northwest in Portland. Sherman currently serves on the boards of New Buildings Institute, Architectural Foundation of Oregon, Earth Advantage, Volunteers of America and the PSU Center for Real Estate.

Vanessa Sturgeon, president and CEO of TMT Development and founder of Sturgeon Development Partners, has spent 25 years shaping Portland鈥檚 commercial real estate landscape.

She led the completion of Park Avenue West, a 30-story class A building that realized her grandfather鈥檚 vision despite significant obstacles. After ground was broken in 2008, the project stalled during the recession, leaving a three-story foundation idle for nearly five years. Sturgeon secured new financing in 2013, and the building opened in 2016 as a premier destination for commercial tenants and residents.

She serves as a director on the Oregon Business Council and holds an advisory board position with Summit Bank. She also is on the R&H Construction board of directors. Sturgeon has served on the New Avenues for Youth board of directors since 2004, acting as chairman from 2017-2023. She previously chaired both the Portland Metro Chamber and Downtown Portland Clean & Safe, maintaining emeritus positions with both organizations. She co-chaired the livable neighborhoods committee for Portland’s Central City Task Force from 2023-2024 and served on the executive committee of A Home for Everyone from 2019-2022.

Kevin Sund discovered his passion for construction while working summer jobs in excavation while attending Oregon State University. This hands-on experience inspired him to shift his focus to construction engineering management.

Sund鈥檚 career at Hoffman Construction taught him how critical a strong construction manager is to a project鈥檚 success. Over his career, he developed a background in managing health care, public development, higher education and commercial construction projects. He has been involved in more than $1 billion in construction on both the owner鈥檚 representative and contractor side of projects.

As the new strategic owner of Klosh Group, Sund brings visionary leadership aimed at driving the company鈥檚 continued success and community impact. His passion for behavioral health inspires him to advocate for environments that better serve community needs.

Sund serves on the review panel for the State Resource Grant Program, where he plays a vital role in ensuring that state funding is allocated to districts that need it most. He also participates in Salem Capital Connections, contributing to local efforts aimed at strengthening community ties.

During more than three decades with Trammell Crow Co., Steve Wells has held various leadership roles. He has focused on development, acquisition, brokerage, property management and construction management activities.

Wells has directed development and investment activity in the Portland-metro area since 2004. Before that, he worked in Trammell Crow鈥檚 offices in Chicago, Milwaukee and Indianapolis.

He was involved in the development of Cascade Station, the Hollywood Entertainment headquarters in Wilsonville, the Norm Thompson headquarters in Hillsboro and the Oregon Research Institute BTS in Eugene in addition to numerous corporate centers and offices.

A member of NAIOP, Wells serves on the advisory board of the Portland State University Center for Real Estate. He also has served as a board member of the Lake Oswego School District Foundation since 2006.

Wells holds a bachelor鈥檚 degree in business administration and accounting from the University of Kansas, and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
