The 15 lawyers were honored during the Daily Journal of Commerce’s Leadership in Law event last week. Edwin Harnden a managing partner with Barran Liebman, received his award from 91ÊÓƵ Publisher Rynni Henderson after being named Legal Leader of the Year; he received a nearly perfect score from an awards selection panel. The dinner and awards ceremony offered time early in the evening for lawyers to catch up with friends and colleagues. More than 200 people attended the Leadership in Law event at the Nines hotel in Portland.

Visitors never know what they will find when they walk through the door at ACE Academy, a Portland charter school for students interested in careers in architecture, engineering and construction. On a recent Thursday, students were engaged in a variety of experiments in learning. As part of the school’s ACE Village project, student Kathryn Cook shows off her group’s multiuse building while teammate Scott Brewer provides moral support. Meanwhile, other students learned the finer points of computer-assisted design programs in a lab class. Still other students tested the results of a class assignment to design paper airplanes able to meet more than a dozen criteria of engineering excellence.

Crews are adding finishing touches to the newly named Jeld-Wen Field with the goal of work wrapping up before the April 14 Major League Soccer showdown between the Portland Timbers and the Chicago Fire. Under the direction of general contractor Turner Construction, the $31 million renovation project not only resulted in a new name for the former PGE Park, but also transformed the stadium into a venue capable of handling MLS events. The field is expected to become a venue for more than 250 events, including Portland State University football games, youth sports competitions and community events.
