Shannon Horton is an associate and architect at Holst Architecture. She has eight years of industry experience, including more than six with Holst. Her greatest career accomplishment so far, she said, was collaborating with community members across Gresham and the greater Portland area to create the East County Library.
During the library project, Horton facilitated extensive community outreach, conducting interviews, focus groups and surveys that reached more than 5,000 community members. Her approach emphasizes active listening to create spaces that reflect and serve diverse populations.
鈥淚 firmly believe that we can only design more beautiful spaces by actively listening to the community,鈥 she said.
Horton鈥檚 professional philosophy centers on recognizing how every aspect of the design and building process affects clients and end users. She focuses on creating equitable buildings while balancing specific client needs. Throughout her career, she has advocated for involving community members in the design and building process.
Horton is a member of the American Institute of Architects.
