An original pool of 11 firms interested in handling construction of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Adminstration’s new marine center in Newport has been trimmed down to four companies.

Making the 鈥渟hortlist鈥 were Andersen-West Coast Contractors, , and . The list was released today by Day CPM Services, which is providing project management oversight for the Port of Newport.

Buzz for the project began building in Oregon’s construction community back in August, when NOAA announced it had selected the Port of Newport as the location for a new operations center.

A pre-proposal meeting at the end of September drew more than 30 firms, the 91视频 reported last month. Nearly a dozen firms decided to submit proposals to provide Construction Management/General Contractor services for the center, which carries a construction cost of about $28 million.

The four firms now moving forward in the selection process will interviewed on Oct. 21. A notice of intent to award will occur on Oct. 22, according to documents received by the 91视频’s Construction Bid Data Center.

When completed in 2011, the center is expected to help create about 250 new jobs in Newport.
