The Red Lion Inn in is closed for structural evaluation after a balcony collapsed last month.

The Coast River Business Journal the hotel closed Dec. 3 and will remain closed at least until March of next year, when engineers plan to finish an evaluation of the building’s support system. The hotel may remain closed longer, depending on repairs the engineers suggest.

“We don’t know how extensive the repairs might be,” Patricia Stryker, a consultant for Red Lion Inn, told the CRBJ. “We will be closed until we make that determination.”

In November, six hotel guests plunged into the Columbia River when a room balcony collapsed. No one was injured. The balcony’s wood supports were suspected as the cause of the accident.

An engineer hired by the hotel finished an initial report after the accident and turned it into the city’s building inspector for analysis.
