Army Corps plans to fix Columbia River jetties

The U.S. wants to repair jetties at the mouth of the . The corps held a meeting last night in Astoria to discuss the repairs.

While the jetties still keep the navigation channel intact, years of Pacific Ocean waves have worn them down. Work completed in 2007 kept the jetties stable, but was intended as a short-term fix.

Corps spokesman Matt Rabe said 17 people attended the meeting, mostly contractors. Construction on the project would still be far off, Rabe said, 2012 at the earliest.

The corps is accepting comments on its proposal and has posted the .
