Living Building Challenge, or LBC: A certification system for sustainable or energy-efficient developments. It is widely considered the most difficult sustainable certification to attain. Certification is based on performance in several categories: site, energy, health, materials, water, beauty and equity. Fully certified developments must prove energy-efficient performance through 12 months of operation.
