Portland’s Bureau of Environmental Services is for a program that helps offset the cost of installing ecoroofs. The incentives are worth up to $5 per square foot.

The program is part of the city’s Grey to Green effort to treat more rainwater before it reaches the storm water system. Understandably, the new ecoroofs must manage water to get the credit.

Started in July 2008, Grey to Green aims to add 43 acres of ecoroofs to Portland. The initiative also extends to trees, with the goal of planting 33,000 in yards and 50,000 along streets.

Applications for the program must be received by June 1, with incentives awarded this summer.

According to a bureau spokesman, ecoroofs typically cost between $5 and $20 per square foot.
