A federal program to sell foreclosed homes is now available for nearly every home in Gresham.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development informed the city of Gresham this week that it significantly expanded the qualifying boundaries for the Neighborhood Stabilization Program, a federally-funded initiative to get foreclosed homes off the market.

The original boundaries were roughly between Interstate 84 and Powell Boulevard and between 162^nd and 257^th streets. The expansion nearly doubles the target area, which now covers most of the Gresham census tract. Qualifying buyers can purchase almost any foreclosed home within Gresham through the program. But money for the program has to be obligated by June 1, so potential home buyers are being asked to move quickly.

HUD’s announcement came a few weeks after Gresham City Council voted to increase the amount of money people can borrow through the Come Home to Gresham program. Citizens can now borrow up to $25,000 interest free from the city to purchase a home, opposed to the previous limit of $10,000.
