The worldwide cosmetics retailer – originally founded in France – is opening a store in downtown Portland at the former Shoe Pavilion location at 419 S.W. Morrison St.

There are four other Sephora stores around the area, including locations at Clackamas Town Center, Washington Square and two locations in Vancouver, Wash. This will be the chain’s first store in Portland.

Sephora will occupy 5,000 square feet in downtown, offering makeup, skin-care products, hair products and other beauty accessories.

The Portland-based is currently working on the build out for Sephora. Considering the space is located in a historic building within the downtown commercial district, the design is subject to a Type II land use review. Comments on the project are due to the city of Portland’s Bureau of Development Services by Feb. 8.

The chain was founded in France in 1969 and opened its first U.S. location in 1997 when the Paris-based Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton acquired Sephora. Currently Sephora has 750 stores in 21 different countries.
