J. Peterkort and Company – a Beaverton-based family business and property owner – filed petition papers with the city of Beaverton on Thursday for voluntary annexation of 51.17 acres of property owned by the family. The four contiguous parcels being annexed into the city are located north of Southwest Barnes Road.

From the city’s perspective, the land provides needed developable acreage to meet both city and county goals for jobs and housing growth.

According the Steve Sparks, principal planner in the city’s Community Development Department, the Washington County Community Plan specifically requires some development occur within the vicinity of the Sunset Station Max light-rail stop. This land will help accommodate that, he said.

The company owns other bordering properties that are already within the boundaries of Beaverton, and having these properties annexed into the city will make for a much smoother development process, said Scott Eaton, a representative for the company, in a release on the annexation.

Over the next several months the city will hold several public hearings on the city land use and zoning designations that will be assigned to the properties. Once complete, J. Peterkort and Company will submit a master plan to the city for its properties, paving the way for development.

The voluntary annexation ordinance will be considered by the Beaverton City Council at its Feb. 8 meeting.
