It’s only natural that the premiere of a film on sustainable renovations of historic buildings will take place tonight in Portland’s historic Gerding Armory.

and director Jane Turville tonight will explore relationships between the green building movement and building reuse in ‘.’ One-third of America’s building stock will be demolished in the next 20 years to replace outdated structures with new, high-performing green buildings. But is demolition in the name of sustainability really the way to go when one considers the various neighborhoods leveled in the name of urban renewal in the past?

The film will look at several examples of adaptive reuse in different U.S. cities and how reuse has the potential to meet a triple bottom line of economic, social and ecological balance. Tickets are available at the door for $8. The show starts at 6:30 p.m. at the Gerding Armory, 128 N.W. 11th Street, in Portland.
